Kenya

The essence of safari: endless savannahs, the Big Five, and the circle of life When one thinks of Kenya, endless savannahs with solitary acacia trees, silhouettes of elephants against a sunset backdrop, and the majestic profile of Mount Kilimanjaro immediately come to mind. The heart of Africa beats here, where ancient traditions intertwine with modern innovations, and the landscapes resemble scenes from wildlife documentaries. Here, the heat of the scorching sun meets the ocean breeze, and the silence of the savannah gives way to the roar of lions and the thunderous pounding of antelope hooves. Welcome to a country where nature takes the lead as director, and you become part of an awe-inspiring performance!

Must-See Natural Wonders of Kenya

Kenya seems tailor-made for those who dream of stepping into the shoes of an explorer, unveiling the mysteries of birds, predators, and herbivores on safari in one of its many national parks and reserves:

-Tsavo East is home to the famous "red elephants," coated in the park’s distinctive reddish dust, alongside cheetahs, ostriches, and hyenas. Highlights include the            Lugard Falls and the Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava flow.

-Tsavo West boasts lush green hills, volcanic landscapes, and the Mzima Springs, where you can observe hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat.

Most travellers choose Kenya for safari — and for good reason! A safari here offers a chance to get as close to wildlife as your courage and the ranger accompanying you allow. Each format reveals a different perspective on Africa’s life and provides unforgettable experiences.

Kenya is not only renowned for its national parks and nature reserves but also for its world-class beaches, rich culture, and fascinating history.

The Indian Ocean coast offers idyllic white-sand beaches, such as Diani Beach, Tiwi, and Malindi, where soft sands, swaying palm trees, and turquoise waters create the perfect setting for relaxation. On the historic island of Lamu, you can experience the tranquillity of quieter beaches surrounded by stunning dunes and ancient architecture. Watamu Beach is famed for its coral reef and marine national park, where you can dive among octopuses, rays, and even sharks.

A visit to Maasai villages offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the traditions of one of Africa’s most iconic peoples. Witness their ritual dances, craft traditional bracelets by hand, and hear legends passed down through generations.

The Karen Blixen Museum, dedicated to the author of the celebrated novel “Out of Africa,” is a must-see for history enthusiasts. Its interiors and gardens transport visitors back to the colonial era. In Mombasa, Fort Jesus stands as a poignant reminder of the battles for coastal control between the Portuguese, Arabs, and British.

Kenya offers a vast array of entertainment and outdoor activities. Nature lovers can hike through the Great Rift Valley or climb the sacred Mount Kenya, renowned for its spires, cliffs, ridges, and peaks. We highly recommend exploring the lava caves of the Chyulu Hills, steeped in a mystical atmosphere that offers breathtaking views of the endless savannah.

Kenya’s coastline is an excellent destination for water sports enthusiasts, with opportunities for snorkelling, kite-surfing, and wind-surfing.

The country amazes visitors with its seamless blend of unspoiled natural beauty and exquisite luxury.

In national parks and reserves, you’ll find premium eco-friendly safari lodges and tented camps offering the comfort and service of five-star hotels. These accommodations feature spacious rooms with stylish interiors, private pools, spa treatments, personal butlers, and fine dining, all while keeping you close to the wilderness. Here in Kenya, the iconic manor with giraffes is located, where you can enjoy breakfast while feeding these gentle creatures through the window.

Kenya also offers haute cuisine that fuses local ingredients with European and Asian culinary traditions. Dining al fresco with a glass of wine by the fire or on a terrace overlooking the wild plains is an essential part of a luxurious African getaway.

When is the best time to visit Kenya?

Kenya delights travellers year-round, but each season offers distinct experiences:

The Great Rift Valley is a tectonic wonder visible from space. Stretching over 6,000 kilometres from Lebanon to Mozambique, it is one of Earth's most striking geological formations. Its width varies between 30 and 100 kilometres and features volcanoes, mountains, and lakes.

The cradle of humanity. Some of the oldest human remains have been discovered in Kenya’s Lake Turkana region, including the famous "Turkana Boy" (Homo erectus), which is approximately 1.6 million years old. Other finds in the area date back over 2 million years.

The Great Migration. Every year, over 1.5 million wildebeest, around 200,000 zebras, and thousands of gazelles undertake a circular migration of 2,500 to 3,000 kilometres between the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara.

Kenya is the homeland of marathon champions. Kenyan runners, particularly from the Kalenjin community, dominate international marathons. Their success is attributed to altitude, climate, nutrition, and an intense training culture.

Mount Kenya: a sacred former volcano. It is the second-highest peak in Africa and was once an active volcano. Today, its highest summit, Batian, rises to 5,199 metres and is surrounded by glaciers and a unique ecosystem. The mountain remains sacred for local communities, symbolising fertility and serving as a spiritual home for deities.
