Luxurious camping in the heart of the Samburu National Reserve, where lions, elephants, and buffalo roam the dry hills and plains!
This area is rich in wildlife diversity: from elephants, cheetahs, and wild dogs to the "Samburu Special Five" (five species unique to this region): Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, gerenuk antelope, and Somali ostrich. Additionally, the renowned Samburu tribe, which is related to the well-known Maasai, lives in this area!
Sasaab, which opened its doors to travellers in 2007, combines elements of Swahili and Moroccan culture and architecture. Each of the 11 canvas-walled rooms, covering more than 100 square metres, features its own small pool and breathtaking views of Mount Kenya's peaks.
The location near the river allows guests to watch herds of elephants coming to bathe, as well as many other wild animals.
Guests can enjoy open-air breakfasts, learn about the abundant birdlife during guided nature walks, meet Samburu herdsmen tending their livestock, explore the reserve’s terrain on a camel or quad bike, see the vast landscapes from a helicopter, and relax in the pool or spa at the end of the day.
In addition to exciting safaris and other adventures, Sasaab offers many activities that will delight young guests. Children can spend hours with one of the guides, who will take them along a nature trail specially designed for the little ones. Young explorers can also learn how to make a traditional Samburu bow and arrows and how to craft a toothbrush from a tree branch.
