Have you ever wondered what the first explorers of Antarctica felt? The cracking of glaciers in the vast silence, the crystal-clear air, the unknown around every corner. Now, you can feel it, too!

But you’re in luck: instead of spending days crossing the harsh Drake Passage like the early explorers, you’ll soar above it in just two hours and find yourself on the shores of the seventh continent. Over eight unforgettable days, you’ll skim past towering icebergs in a Zodiac, lock eyes with curious penguins, and spot whales and seals from the deck of a comfortable expedition ship. This is more than a journey — it’s your personal encounter with Earth’s last frontier.

Travel scenario

Day 1. Arrival in Punta Arenas, Chile

Your journey to the Antarctic coast begins in Punta Arenas, Chile's southernmost city on the shores of the Magellan Strait. Often called the “gateway” to Antarctica, Punta Arenas is where many Antarctic expeditions commence. If you have extra time before the group meeting, explore the city’s museums, local restaurants, and charming souvenir shops.

During the day, a representative from the expedition team will meet you at the hotel, where your journey begins. In the evening, join your tour members for a welcome dinner and an important briefing on how to prepare for your first steps on Antarctic terrain.

Day 2. Flight to King George Island and Start of the Expedition

Today, you’ll take a private charter flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island. Perfect for those who prefer a smoother journey, this two-hour flight across the Drake Passage lets you avoid rough seas and arrive in one of the most remote places on Earth.

As the plane descends over the South Shetland Islands, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of snowy peaks and vast, icy landscapes. Once you land on King George Island, home to research stations from around the world, you’ll go to the shore to board a Zodiac inflatable boat, which will take you to your floating hotel for the journey. From here, your expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula begins — a destination seen only by the most intrepid travellers.

Days 3 — 6. Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands

Antarctica is a world like no other. You may hear stories from travellers or imagine this snow-covered kingdom, but nothing truly prepares you for experiencing the grandeur of the White Continent firsthand.

Throughout the journey, your captain and crew will keep a close watch on the surroundings, ensuring you’re alerted when it’s time to head to the deck to observe whales and seabirds. Experts will share all you need to know about this icy land: how icebergs form, Antarctica's role in Earth’s ecosystem, and the unique creatures that inhabit it. The team will hold photography workshops for those keen to capture unforgettable shots to help you return with stunning images.

The real magic begins when you set out on the water in a Zodiac. Each landing offers a new experience, weather permitting, but one thing remains certain: each day brings new impressions and discoveries.

Boat full of tourists explore huge icebergs, Antarctic peninsula

One day, you might go whale-watching and navigate among giant icebergs, and on another, you may spot a leopard seal or come across a penguin colony. Before long, you’ll learn to identify Antarctica’s monochrome residents, like playful gentoo penguins and the charming Adélies. And when a distant glacier cracks and crashes into the sea, you’ll feel the raw power of nature.

If you’re feeling adventurous, plunge into the icy waters — a thrilling burst of energy and funny photos guaranteed. For those seeking extra excitement, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and hiking across untouched landscapes are available. All these moments are safely guided by our knowledgeable team — true experts of the region.

Day 7. Return to Punta Arenas

After six incredible days in Antarctica, it’s time to bid farewell to the seventh continent. You’ll return to King George Island, board a plane, and fly across the Drake Passage back to Punta Arenas.

Once back at the hotel, if you’re still in the mood for exploration, take some time to discover Punta Arenas on your own. Wander through the city streets, visit Plaza Muñoz Gamero, surrounded by historic buildings, and admire the Magellan Monument. Alternatively, head to Mirador Cerro de la Cruz for a stunning view of the Magellan Strait — a waterway that has been an important route for explorers over centuries.

Don’t miss the chance to try local specialities, including Chilean wine and fresh seafood, especially chupe de centolla, a hearty king crab stew.

Day 8. Farewell to Punta Arenas

After breakfast, you’ll have the option to either continue your travels or head to Punta Arenas Airport.

Your adventure has come to an end. Now it’s time to mark a few more places off the map, sort through your photos, and start planning your next journey with Scenario Travel.
