Travel scenario

Day 1. Arrival in Longyearbyen, Svalbard (hotel night)

Your journey begins in Longyearbyen, the capital and administrative centre of Svalbard. You will be transferred from the airport to the hotel, where you can unwind before the start of the expedition.

The Landscape of Longyearbyen in Svalbard

You can spend your free time exploring Longyearbyen, a compact mining town with a population of about 2,000, which envelops you in an atmosphere of polar peace and tranquillity. If you're interested in Arctic history, visit the Svalbard Museum for a glimpse into the past and present of this captivating land. The souvenir shop offers rare books and maps — the perfect companions for a true explorer.

End the day with dinner at one of the local restaurants.

Day 2. The Beginning of the Expedition

This morning, you will have some spare time to enjoy Longyearbyen. Take in the sight of the majestic ice fjords and mountains, or visit the local shops — perhaps you will find something interesting or essential for the expedition.

For lunch, stop by one of the local cafés where you can try the northernmost pizza or kebab in the world. Where else will you have such an opportunity?

After lunch, you will be transferred to the pier, where your ship awaits — a luxurious floating hotel for the days ahead. Settle into your stylish suite and sense the excitement of what’s to come.

In the evening, the first informative briefings will take place — the team will outline plans for the coming days. Afterwards, you will enjoy a delicious dinner on board.

Days 3-5. Exploration of Svalbard

During these days, you will explore the Arctic, with the route determined by weather and ice conditions. You’ll travel to the northwestern part of Svalbard, one of the archipelago’s most stunning regions.

Here, nature is full of contrasts: narrow channels, deep fjords, snow-covered mountains with sharp peaks, and vast glaciers that calve ice blocks into the turquoise waters of the ocean, forming icebergs.

On land, reindeer graze peacefully on the flowering tundra, Arctic foxes scurry about in search of prey, and a mighty polar bear could appear at any moment. The surrounding seas are also teeming with life: you may spot walruses and seals resting on ice floes and bowhead whales and narwhals that inhabit these cold waters. Here, you are not merely observing wildlife — you are engaging with it.

One potential stop on your journey is Ny Ålesund, the world’s northernmost continuously inhabited settlement, where scientists conducting Arctic research reside. It is home to buildings dating back to the era of the great polar expeditions and a post office from which you can send a postcard directly from the Arctic!

Days 6-7. Crossing the Greenland Sea

You now cross the Greenland Sea on your way to East Greenland. At any time of the year, drifting sea ice floes can be seen here, making this part of the journey breathtaking.

Keep an eye out — whales and seals frequently appear in these waters. This is your chance to witness the Arctic's wildest and purest form.

Days 8-11. East Greenland Exploration

During these days, you'll awaken the spirit of exploration within yourself! The expedition will take you to East Greenland, with the route, as always, determined by nature and weather conditions. Rest assured, our experienced captain and crew will seize every opportunity to showcase the maximum beauty of this rugged region.

You'll head to the Franz Josef and Kong Oscar fjord systems, which are part of the Northeast Greenland National Park, the largest national park in the world. You'll also explore Scoresby Sund, the world's largest and longest fjord system, navigating it as far as the ever-changing ice conditions allow.

Greenland's fjords are a powerful sight, with narrow channels and towering mountains reaching up to 2,000 metres, stretching deep into Greenland’s rocky heart. In these wild expanses, you may spot musk oxen and Arctic hares roaming the colourful tundra. This vast, untouched land is a dream come true for hikers. Throughout the area, you'll encounter archaeological sites of the neo-Inuit Thule culture, along with ancient and modern huts of Inuit hunters.

One of the stops will be the Inuit village of Illoqqortoormiut, the only permanent settlement in this part of Greenland, home to around 500 people. Here, you'll have the chance to engage with the local culture, visit the museum, browse souvenir shops, and observe sled dogs.

Every day promises adventure: shore landings, fjord tours, expert presentations, and, of course, stunning landscapes ready to be captured.

Day 12. Crossing the Denmark Strait

Today, you will depart from East Greenland and head towards Iceland, crossing the Denmark Strait and the Arctic Circle along the way. On board, you can enjoy engaging lectures and workshops led by our experts, who will share insights into the region's nature and history. Additionally, from the panoramic decks and through the windows of your cabin, you will have the opportunity to observe Arctic seabirds and whales, which are frequently spotted in this strait.

Day 13. Westfjords, Iceland

Your adventure concludes in one of Iceland's most picturesque and isolated corners — the Westfjords region. This remote and wild area is visited by only 10% of tourists and is unique from both a geological and cultural perspective. The peninsula's rock formations, which are approximately 14 million years old, feature rugged coastlines, majestic waterfalls, towering mountains, and small fishing villages.

The deep fjords of the region are home to whales, while the coastal waters teem with seals and numerous species of birds.

Day 14. Landing in Reykjavík, Iceland

Your journey is coming to an end. After breakfast, you will disembark in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland and the final destination of the expedition. You’ll be transferred to the airport or the city centre if you wish to linger and explore Iceland further.

Reykjavík is the centre of Iceland's cultural life. Here, you can visit museums, galleries, and the Lutheran Hallgrímskirkja church with its impressive architecture. If you want to unwind after your two-week adventure, relaxing in the thermal springs is the perfect choice. Should you decide to spend a day in the city, you’ll discover local boutiques for shopping, excellent restaurants, and Reykjavík's vibrant nightlife.

And if your thirst for adventure remains, the whole of Iceland is at your fingertips. Day tours or trips with a rental car will let you explore the island's volcanoes, glaciers, and hot springs. The possibilities with Scenario Travel are endless!
