Antarctica
,
Queen Maud Land
Look on the map

Whichaway features a series of state-of-the-art pods offering stunning vistas over the freshwater lakes of the Schirmacher Oasis.

The Whichaway camp is located at the foot of a 60-meter icefall on a rare rocky outcrop in the Schirmacher Oasis on the shores of a frozen lake. Surrounded by a huge iridescent blue wall of ice, this camp is the perfect place for exploration, adventure, relaxation, and contemplation of the majesty of the white continent.

Accommodation.

The camp consists of six heated modules designed to accommodate two guests comfortably. Each module includes a bedroom, desk, and en-suite washroom.

The rest of the camp consists of a shower cabin and a central Compass lounge, which includes:

  • The reception, living room and dining room are combined into three centralized modules.
  • Canadian cedar sauna for relaxation after an active day.

Culinary delights

Gourmet breakfasts, lunches and dinners await you during your stay at Whichaway Camp. Chefs use the best ingredients from South Africa and pair each dish with wines from Cape Town's finest vineyards. All food is prepared according to the highest culinary standards so you can enjoy fine dining, even in the world's most remote corners.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Ice tunnels. Seasonal meltwater cuts through the icy waves, creating deep tunnels of blue ice at the foot of the oasis. Exploring these tunnels is truly a magical experience.
  • Rope Walk. Experienced guides will lead you across a 60-meter cliff, offering breathtaking views of the icy waves below.
  • Wellness. You can relax your body and soul by visiting the sauna or doing yoga with a magnificent lake view.
  • Blue rivers. You will see streams of spring water from the shore of the glacier, which create magical blue rivers as if drawn from the pages of a fairy-tale book.
  • Abselling. World champion climbers will teach you how to climb steep walls safely.
  • Rock climbing and rappelling. Climb to the top of one of the nunataks, abseil down from it, or take a less challenging route.
  • Antarctic jeep safari. You will go on safari in a jeep adapted for Antarctic conditions, making it ideal for exploring glaciers. UIAGM's highly trained guides will lead you through the icy expanses, explain glacier formation, and share facts from the region's rich history of exploration.
